What our loyal customer Union Hand Roasted Coffee says: « Cocagi coffee is the second most preferred Rwandese coffee in the UK »

HISTORY

Our fine coffee grows on the hills where the first coffee trees were planted by colonial farmers in the Southwestern province of Rwanda. This is located close to the Nyungwe rainforest and lake Kivu.

COCAGI, Cooperative of Gishoma coffee farmers, began in 2004 and has since then grown from 267 to 1075 small producer-members, of which 267 are women.

OUR MEMBERS’ SOCIAL

WELL-BEING COMES FIRST

At COCAGI, we aim to create jobs in the region. We communicate in a transparent manner with our members and all of them are involved in the decision-taking.

We take their social well-being as priority:

  • we pay the health insurance for our members and their husband or wife
  • through our education fund, we pay the secondary school & university fees for the children of our most vulnerable members
  • through our Girinka fund we have distributed 31 cows so far and each member got 1 goat
  • our employees and workers benefit from the solidarity fund

WE CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

AND ITS IMPACT ON FARMERS

We grow coffee in a sustainable manner by using a minimum of pesticides.

  • Our nursery grows 10000 coffee seedlings per year
  • We replace old coffee trees with a low yield
  • We transform the pulp into organic manure, distributed to the members

We fight against erosion

  • We identified high risk hills and gave a credit to the inhabitants to be able to build a new house in a safer
